    The authors investigate the functional consequences of SF3B1 haploinsufficiency in myelodysplastic syndromes. The SF3B1 gene is commonly mutated in refractory anemia with ring sideroblasts, and encodes a protein involved in RNA splicing. Meayamycin, a SF3b splicing inhibitor, induces formation of ringed sideroblasts when added to cultured bone marrow cells from healthy individuals. Cover art by Dr Heesun J. Rogers and Edy Hasrouni.
