Platelet infusion stimulates the mobilization and recruitment of bone marrow-derived cells (green) into tumors resulting in enhanced angiogenesis (CD31 vessel staining, red). Secretion of platelet α-granules is required for these effects and results in the release of various mobilization and angiogenic factors, which are counterbalanced by thrombospondin-1.
