Acute promyelocytic leukemia blasts with t(X;17)(p11;q12), resulting in BCOR-RARA fusion transcript, exhibit unique cytoplasmic inclusion bodies. The patient's bone marrow cells were positively stained with Sudan black B. The blasts typically show round inclusions as indicated at the upper right corner and rectangular cytoplasmic bodies. A complex of rectangular inclusions, reminiscent of the Chinese character meaning “six,” was observed at the middle left panel. See the article by Yamamoto et al on page 4274.
