The 64th ASH Annual Meeting and Exposition is the best place to reconnect with old colleagues, establish new collaborations, and discover the latest in hematology. Whether you're joining us in New Orleans, or using the meeting’s virtual platform, participating in the scientific conversation on social media is an essential part of the #ASH22 experience! By using social media during the annual meeting, you can immerse yourself in scientific discourse around your favorite sessions, get updates from the Society, engage with fellow hematology professionals, and discover new and interesting science you may have missed (catch up on demand after the meeting)!
We've put together some tips and tricks for how you can take advantage of social media during #ASH22.
The Basics
For up-to-the-minute ASH annual meeting content, follow the Society’s official social media accounts: Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook. ASH will share important updates and reminders, attendee photos and posts, and links to content you won’t want to miss, like ASH News Daily articles and clips from ASH News TV.
If the world of Twitter is new to you, look for our “How I Tweet” playlist on the ASH YouTube channel to learn how to make the most of the experience. In this series, former chair of the ASH Committee on Communications, Aaron Gerds, MD, MS, discusses some key basics, including: Getting Started on Twitter, How to Make the Most Out of Your Twitter Account, and Frequently Asked Questions.
Using Hashtags
Hashtags allow your audience to quickly identify the topic of your post and help other interested users become involved in the conversation! Even those who don’t follow you can still find your post if they search the hashtag you used, increasing your likelihood of being found by other colleagues and meeting attendees who are posting about the same topics.
The official annual meeting hashtag is #ASH22 – including this hashtag in your posts is essential to ensure your message doesn’t get lost in the shuffle!
A wide variety of disease- and topic-specific hashtags (listed above) can be helpful for joining conversations you are interested in and engaging colleagues who have similar interests, at the meeting and year-round. For example, be sure to use #ASHDEI to spark a dialogue with your fellow attendees after attending the innovative Health Equity Studio, or include #classicalheme when tweeting about any classical hematology sessions!
Featured Annual Meeting Hashtags
ASH will feature four meeting-specific hashtags. By using these hashtags in your posts during the annual meeting, you can be featured on the ASH Community Collage social media wall in New Orleans and may even end up on our new social media leaderboard! Each day, ASH’s social media leaderboard will rank the top 10 most prolific tweeters who include one of these four hashtags in their posts. The leaderboard will reset each day at midnight, so you will have plenty of chances to make your way to the top.
Be sure to follow each of the hashtags below before #ASH22 to catch all the pre-meeting excitement!
#ASH22
This is the official hashtag representing the 64th ASH Annual Meeting and Exposition! Join the conversation here to explore the science at the meeting, as well as fun opportunities to interact and network with your friends and colleagues.
#ASHRunWalk
Be sure to use #ASHRunWalk if you are participating in the 2022 ASH Foundation Run/Walk virtually from Sunday, December 4, through Sunday, December 8, or on the Riverwalk in the French Quarter on Sunday, December 10!
#ASHaiku
Back by popular demand, this hashtag can be used for expressing both your poetic creativity and enthusiasm for hematology. Use #ASHaiku to post your own meeting-specific version of this Japanese poetry style composed of three lines of five, seven, and five syllables. Some of these tweets will be featured in ASH News Daily throughout the meeting.
#ASHKudos
Each year, the ASH annual meeting provides an opportunity to recognize those who make hematology truly great. With #ASHKudos, you can give public props to wonderful colleagues, innovative presenters, or your trusty mentor or mentee!
Top ASH Hashtag Users
ASH is again recognizing those who take their social media presence to the next level, and in turn giving you some great new accounts to follow! We have put together a list of the most prolific Tweeters from last year’s meeting. By following these individuals, you can take advantage of another opportunity to enhance your annual meeting experience and engage with fellow hematology professionals. This list is made up of the most active users of #ASH21 (last year’s meeting’s hashtag) who included their Twitter handle when they registered for this year’s meeting (prior to the advance registration deadline). You can spot them in New Orleans via their blue “Top ASH Hashtag User” ribbon. The views expressed by the Twitter users on our list do not necessarily represent the views of ASH.
Be sure to follow #ASH22 to see this year’s most active Twitter users and use the hashtag yourself to get on next year’s list! Follow the Twitter list, published from the ASH Twitter handle. We’ve also listed the handles of the ASH News Daily Editorial Board members, so you don’t miss a thing!
