ASH Congratulates the Winners of the 2022 Minority Recruitment Initiative Awards

December 12, 2022

In the past six years, ASH has continued to build on the Minority Recruitment Initiative, announcing new award programs for underrepresented minority residents, graduate students, and fellows (the ASH Minority Resident Hematology Award Program [MRHAP], ASH Minority Hematology Graduate Award [MHGA], and ASH Minority Hematology Fellow Award [MHFA], respectively) and thereby rounding out ASH’s efforts to support the hematology-focused research pursuits of trainees and early-career investigators.

The overarching goal of the ASH Minority Recruitment Initiative is attracting and retaining talented individuals from under-represented minority communities and diversifying and expanding the hematology workforce, from medical school students (the Minority Medical Student Award Program [MMSAP]) to PhD candidates (the Minority Graduate Student Abstract Achievement Award [MGSAAA]) to scholars with academic and research appointments (The Harold Amos Medical Faculty Development Program [ASH-AMFDP]).

Altogether the six awards form a continuum of opportunities that can include research and travel stipends, interactions with career and research mentors, and complementary access to ASH publications (visit for specifics on each individual award). Moreover, each award provides experiences that support and encourage participants through every step of their career paths.

Please join ASH in congratulating all of this year’s participants, and keep an eye out for the Tuesday issue of ASH News Daily for more coverage of this year’s winners.
