Chi Van Dang, MD, PhD
The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) awarded Chi Van Dang, MD, PhD, fellow of the AACR Academy, the 2024 AACR-Margaret Foti Award for Leadership and Extraordinary Achievements in Cancer Research during the AACR Annual Meeting in April.
The award was established in 2007 and recognizes an individual whose work and leadership have made a significant impact on cancer research. Dr. Dang was recognized for his work conceptualizing and demonstrating how genetic alterations in key oncogenes can lead to tumor metabolism reprogramming.
His leadership contributions were also highlighted by the award. Specifically, Dr. Dang oversees nine research institutes as scientific director at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research. He also holds roles as the Bloomberg Distinguished Professor of Cancer Medicine and professor of oncology and cell biology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore; professor of biochemistry and molecular biology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health; and adjunct professor of medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine in Philadelphia.
Throughout his career, Dr. Dang has won many awards, been elected to countless societies, and contributed to two AACR publications.
“Dr. Dang is a remarkable scientist whose work has led to significant progress against cancer for the benefit of patients around the world,” said Margaret Foti, PhD, MD (hc), chief executive officer of AACR. “His visionary leadership not only as a researcher, but also as a mentor and highly skilled administrator has contributed to the development of a strong, creative, collaborative community of cancer researchers. We are immensely proud to honor him with this award.”
