ABIM Announces Specialized Hematology LKAs

May 9, 2024

June 2024

The American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) is introducing malignant and classical versions of the Hematology Longitudinal Knowledge Assessment (LKA) beginning in 2026. The general hematology assessment will still be available upon introduction of the new LKAs.

The new versions of the assessment will feature more questions relevant to malignant or classical hematology, respective to each version. Whether clinicians choose to take the malignant or classical version, their certificate will still be designated as hematology.

ABIM recommends that individuals who have assessments due in 2024 or 2025 enroll in the Hematology LKA and switch to one of the new versions when they become available in 2026. Those who choose to take the 10-year MOC exam in hematology in the year their assessment is due will not be able to take one of the new versions between then and their next assessment.

In May, the American Society of Hematology (ASH) issued an announcement regarding ABIM’s decision to introduce specialized LKAs. To read this announcement and get updates on all of ASH’s advocacy efforts to re-envision MOC, visit hematology.org/moc.
