AMWA Awards Betty Pace 2023 Woman in Science Award

The American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA) awarded Betty S. Pace, MD, the 2023 Woman in Science Award during the 108th AMWA Annual Meeting. The award is given to a female physician who has made exceptional contributions to medical science through her work.

Dr. Pace, a Councillor on the American Society of Hematology Executive Committee, is a professor of pediatrics and the Francis J. Tedesco Distinguished Chair of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Augusta University in Georgia. She has been with Augusta University since 2010 and was director of the pediatric sickle cell program until 2021.

She leads a basic and translational research lab that is funded by the National Institutes of Health. The research is primarily focused on sickle cell disease drug development.

In addition to her research, Dr. Pace has also made a great impact through her leadership contributions. She has personally trained over 100 scientists, and she directs the Program to Increase Diversity for Individuals Engaged in Health-Related Research, also known as PRIDE, a training project funded by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.
