Three faculty members at Albert Einstein Cancer Center (AECC) in New York have been appointed to leadership positions.
Named to deputy director of AECC is Ulrich Steidl, MD, PhD, professor of cell biology and medicine and interim director for the Ruth L. and David S. Gottesman Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine. An internationally recognized blood cancer researcher, Dr. Steidl is co-director of the Blood Cancer Institute at AECC and holds the Rose C. Falkenstein Chair in Cancer Research. In his role as deputy director, Dr. Steidl will oversee the full spectrum of basic science research.
Adebola Adedimeji, PhD, will be the first associate director for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) at AECC. In this new role, Dr. Adedimeji will integrate DEI considerations into all aspects of cancer care, from faculty recruitment and advancement to promoting health equity in research. A social epidemiologist with business training, Dr. Adedimeji focuses his research on examining the social and structural determinants of health. He is research associate professor, head of the Division of Health Behavior Research and Implementation Science, and director for DEI in the Department of Epidemiology and Population Health at AECC.
H. Dean Hosgood, PhD, was appointed co-leader of the cancer epidemiology, prevention, and control research program where he will focus on population health research in the Bronx, addressing barriers to health equity and connecting researchers to community advocates and partners through improving resources. Dr. Hosgood is associate professor of epidemiology and population at AECC, director of global environmental health, associate director of population and clinical sciences, and co-director of the PhD in Clinical Investigation program.
