Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center: Partnership Restructure Complete

June 27, 2022

July 2022

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is now a unified adult cancer research and care center built on merging the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), and Seattle Children’s and University of Washington (UW) Medicine. The new center is a clinically integrated part of UW Medicine.

“As a unified organization, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center will focus on improving patient outcomes, accelerating research discoveries and cures, and reducing barriers to how we collaborate,” said Thomas J. Lynch, Jr., MD, president and director of Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. “Ultimately, we want to deliver the latest scientific breakthroughs to our patients and provide them with the best possible care.”

The new Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center brand is expected to be introduced later this year. Until then, the process of merging the organizations includes integrating teams and operations. Eight clinical care sites at SCCA will be rebranded as Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center sites over the next year. Additionally, the new organization is establishing a board of directors composed of 13 members, including nine community directors and four ex officio positions.

The transition is not expected to affect cancer care delivery to patients.
