Saad Usmani, MD, has been selected as chief of Myeloma Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) Cancer Center. He succeeds C. Ola Landgren, MD, PhD.

Dr. Usmani has more than 14 years of experience in the care of patients with multiple myeloma, and his research has illuminated how racial disparities affect treatment and response to the disease.

“My goal is to broaden the scope of research we do through the whole spectrum of the disease, nurture the career and research goals of my faculty, and leverage MSK’s regional sites to increase the Myeloma Service presence and access to care for patients,” Dr. Usmani said.

Dr. Usmani earned his medical degree in Pakistan before completing internal residency training at Wayne State University’s Sinai-Grace Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, and a hematology and oncology fellowship at the University of Connecticut.

When not working, Dr. Usmani likes to raise funds for cancer research, usually in the form of a race or endurance event. He has completed the New York City and Boston marathons, and participated in the Mount Everest Base Camp trek. Learn more about Dr. Usmani’s hobbies in his “Pulling Back the Curtain” profile in the August 2019 issue of ASH Clinical News.
