Looking for information on anti-racism in health care? ASH has developed a collection of resources to help its members confront and dismantle racism in their work as clinicians, researchers, and educators.
Stereotyping, lack of representation, and racism perpetuate false beliefs, lead to misdiagnosis, narrow clinical decision making, and perpetuate implicit bias, all of which result in real health disparities. These forces also affect the integrity and safety of the learning climate and the success of future hematologists. The hematology community has a moral imperative to confront and dismantle racism in clinical practice and research at an institutional and personal level.
The ASH Anti-Racism Toolkit includes resources to help hematologists:
- Gain a better understanding of systemic racism and an anti-racism framework
- Explore the impact of racism in the context of health care and medicine
- Implement change to combat racism within the field of hematology
