ASH Sickle Cell Disease Initiative Wins Top ASAE Prize

The American Society of Hematology (ASH) is proud to have been named a 2019 Power of A Summit Award winner for the Society's multifaceted Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) Initiative.

The Power of A Summit Award, given annually by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), recognizes the association community's valuable contributions on the local, national, and global levels.

ASH's SCD Initiative was honored for convening world-renowned experts and volunteers dedicated to addressing the burden of SCD in the U.S. and globally. The program, established in 2015, focuses on broad-based education of clinicians and scientists to support collaboration on diagnostics, therapies, and cures.

To meet its goal of advancing SCD research, the initiative leverages the ASH Research Collaborative's Data Hub (which can house research-grade data) to identify research opportunities that will enhance the quality of SCD care. Additionally, the program is tackling regional disparities in care through its African Newborn Screening initiative, through which a consortium of participating institutions is introducing standard-of-care practices for SCD screening and early intervention therapies.

ASH will be formally recognized at the 20th Annual Power of A Summit Awards Dinner in October.
