Blood Journal's Impact Factor the Highest Since 2010; First in Field of Hematology
The Thomson Reuters' Journal Citation Report®, released in June, revealed Blood's impact factor increasing from 9.775 to 10.452, making it the highest since 2010, and ranking the journal first in the hematology category. Blood was also the most-cited journal in hematology in 2014 and was ranked 21st in overall citations, out of 8,618 journals. These and other metrics released in the report marked Blood as a top journal in hematology and a leading medical journal worldwide. The fifth annual ASH Advocacy Leadership Institute will take place in Washington, DC, October 28-29. This two-day workshop provides an opportunity for U.S. ASH members to gain a better understanding of the Society and its activities and to learn about legislation and health policy affecting hematology research and practice. Nominations are being accepted through July 31.
The selection of participants is based on a nomination process, and participation will be by invitation only. Self-nominations are welcome. You may also send nominations to ASH Legislative Advocacy Manager Tracy Roades. Abstract Submission for the 57th ASH Annual Meeting and Exposition
The abstract submission site for the 2015 ASH Annual Meeting is now open. ASH is accepting submissions across 60 scientific and clinical categories, spanning the entire field of hematology. The submission deadline is August 4, 2015, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time. Improving MDS Outcomes: From Diagnosis to Treatment
ASH is co-sponsoring a complimentary CME summit on myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), focusing on the multidisciplinary approach to care for MDS patients, with the American Society for Clinical Pathology and the France Foundation.
The goal of this summit is to improve performance diagnosis and treatment of MDS patients. Participants will actively engage in multidisciplinary, interactive small-group activities, including:
- Case-based tumor board discussions
- Assessing low or high grade MDS
- Identifying the new role of molecular testing
The summit is designed for all members of the MDS care team, including: hematologists, pathologists, medical laboratory scientists, medical oncologists, and hematology/oncology nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
Speakers for this event include Timothy Miley, MD, Methodist Hospital; Mikkael Sekeres, MD, MS, Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Institute; Marilyn L. Slovak, PhD, Sonoma Quest Laboratories/Laboratory Sciences of Arizona; Jessica Altman, MD, Northwestern University; Tracy George, MD, University of New Mexico; Rami Komrokji, MD, Moffitt Cancer Center; and additional expert faculty.
