In February, Moffit Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida, named Karen H. Lu, MD, executive vice president and physician-in-chief. She’ll oversee Moffit Medical Group.
Before stepping into her current role, Dr. Lu was the chair of the Department of Gynecologic Oncology and Reproductive Medicine and co-director of the Clinical Cancer Genetics program at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. She was also the ad interim chief clinical officer during her time at MD Anderson.
Dr. Lu’s areas of expertise include surgical, medical, and preventive treatment in endometrial and ovarian cancers and patients who are at high risk of these cancers. She has made great contributions to the field of cancer genetics through her research on hereditary gynecologic cancers.
In addition to her leadership roles, Dr. Lu is a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation and the Association of American Physicians, serves on the American Society of Clinical Oncology Research Committee, and is president-elect of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology.
“As Moffitt Cancer Center strives every day to lower the death rate from cancer, we need the best and brightest experts to care for our patients. Karen Lu is who we need to lead our Moffitt Medical Group to advances and innovations that will bring a cure,” said Patrick Hwu, MD, president and chief executive officer of Moffitt.
