Mohandas Narla, DSc
In late 2023, the Académie Nationale de Médecine, located in Paris, inducted Mohandas Narla, DSc, president of the American Society of Hematology (ASH), as a foreign associate member in the 1st division, medicine and medical specialties.
Established in 1902, the Académie Nationale de Médecine fosters collaboration between doctors, pharmacists, surgeons, biologists, and veterinarians who have been recognized for their scientific contributions. Members of the academy are elected by their peers.
Prior to becoming president of ASH, Dr. Narla served as an ASH Councillor (2010); associate editor of Blood (2003-2012); chair of the ASH Scientific Committee on Red Cell Biology (2003-2004), Nominating Committee (2005-2006), and Awards Committee (2013-2016); and a member of numerous other standing committees, task forces, and study sections.
“I feel very honored and grateful to be elected to the French National Academy of Medicine since I first began my hematology research career in France in 1973 working at Institut Pathologie Cellulaire in Paris for three years,” Dr. Narla said. “I have continued my research collocations ever since, working with my French hematology colleagues. I consider France my second home and never expected to receive this recognition.”
Dr. Narla was profiled in the December 2023 issue of ASH Clinical News, in which he talked about his history with ASH, medical background, and passion for mentorship.
